  • Vacancy: Asset & Project Support Officer

    This role is not a desk bound data driven role. At Bingham, you’ll be a conduit between strategic and corporate ambitions and a key part of small but driven team.

    Working with the Clerk to deliver the Council’s services and ambitious projects, will be a key part to your role. You will support the improvement of services, management of assets and the progression of new and exciting projects.

    In this role, no two days will the same, and your duties far from mundane. You will be trained in all aspects of the office administration including cemetery management, risk management and project support.

    Focussing on the management and maintenance responsibilities of the Town Council’s assets, you will liaise with community tenants, contractors and the Council’s grounds maintenance team. You will also oversee the health and safety objectives of the Town Council.

    Management of the Town Council’s annual events will also see you working with volunteers who enhance and support the Town with their own calendar of events.

    Following a resignation, a vacancy for a Councillor in the South East Ward is available for co-option.

    Bingham Town Council owns and manages various sites within the Town, including the Cemetery and Linear Park nature reserve. The council also provides support to local community organisations and promotes Bingham’s sense of place through its grant aid scheme, events, floral displays, and Christmas lighting displays.

    Bingham Town Council is very active and has many strategic priorities that they would like to deliver for the Town. This includes progressing the re-development of the Wynhill site to provide improved and increased community facilities, refurbishment of Cogley Lane play area, improvements to Linear Park and refurbishment of the Old Court House. The Council is also continuing its work with other key stakeholders on the parking provision in the Town.

    A Grounds Maintenance Operative role doesn’t have to be a restrictive remit for repetition, ticking off tasks from one location to the next. Imagine joining an in-house team that embraces quality of work and prides itself on the community it serves and is at the heart of a vibrant town.

    With support from an experienced Grounds Maintenance Operative and office team, you’ll be overseeing a one-mile radius inclusive of over 10,000 residents, five play areas, parks, allotments, a cemetery, and sports pitches.

    Far from being pigeon-holed within a large team, your work will span grounds maintenance, funerals, park checks, basic tree work, allotments, flower beds, litter picking, risk assessments, health and safety checks, and the Summer and Christmas Lights Switch-on events.

    The core working hours are 7am to 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday, with a 2.30pm finish on a Friday; it’s a 39-hour working week. A driving licence is needed for use of Council-owned utility vehicles, not for your own vehicle. Overtime opportunities exist for seasonal Council events.

    Whether it’s the onset of high winds or a funeral that needs rearranging, plans can change quickly. You need to be adaptable and composed, working on your initiative whilst also enjoying the chance to liaise with and learn from a highly experienced senior colleague.

    Do You Offer…?

    • At least three years of experience in a similar role, based outdoors
    • Vocational or in-house training – or qualification – related to Grounds Maintenance
    • A valid UK driving licence
    • Basic, proficient handwriting skills – for signing off paperwork in writing
