    Bingham Arena Leisure Centre will open its doors on Monday February 20 hosting a new 25 metre six lane swimming pool, teaching pool, fitness centre, spin and exercise studios, café and community hall.

    The new £13 million leisure centre facility on Chapel Lane in the town will be managed by Lex Leisure who are ready to give a warm welcome to new and existing members and visitors.

    Current memberships and bookings at the Toot Hill site will transfer over to the new state-of-the-art 5500 sq m leisure centre which will be home to an 80-station fitness studio with two group exercise studios and an indoor cycling studio.

    It will also be the first facility locally to welcome significant swimming galas, competitions and events, thanks to a 330-seater swimming pool spectating area, presenting new opportunities with swim instructors qualified to Swim England standard.

    The teaching pool also ensures there is something for everyone no matter age or ability and lessons will be available seven days a week.

    The venue will also be home to Bingham Jubilee Community Hall with support from Bingham Town Council. The community hall can host a range of events for audiences up to 300 people so named to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and is courtesy of part-funding from D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

    Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Cllr Simon Robinson welcomed the news of its opening.

    He said: “We can’t wait to open this wonderful new venue for all Bingham and Rushcliffe residents that will provide contemporary facilities the local community can be proud of at the heart of one of our growing towns.

    “Crucially in line with our Carbon Clever priorities, it is set to be a greener and carbon efficient site with a 78% carbon emission reduction compared to other leisure centres locally. It’s vital we set an example for others to follow in investing in new infrastructure in the right way.

    “Air source heat pumps, combined heat and power technology, water efficiency measures, LED lighting and energy efficient building materials are all in the building’s new design.

    “The gym and fitness suite boasts a wide range of cardio and resistance equipment and a state-of-the-art Boditrax body composition and activity tracking platform.

    “Bingham Jubilee Community Hall will host a large stage with provision for theatre performances, stage curtains and contemporary sound and lighting to suit a wide range of events and activities. This really is a venue fit for Bingham for 2023.”

    New members can sign up for a membership for just £37.50 per month at www.leisurecentre.com/bingham-arena/founder-offer with the price frozen for three years and residents can find out more at www.leisurecentre.com/bingham-arena

    The current Bingham Leisure Centre at Toot Hill School will close although facilities will remain available for outdoor sports including hockey, tennis and athletics and sports hall activities outside of school hours. These will also be managed by Lex Leisure.

    Glen Hall, Parkwood Leisure’s Managing Director, said: “The new Bingham Arena is a fantastic addition to the Borough’s leisure facilities, and further enhances the leisure, health and fitness provision for the community of Bingham and the surrounding area.

    “It’s also a great showcase for what can be done to improve the energy efficiency of leisure facilities, which is something that we’re working hard to do across all our sites.”

    Lex Leisure will be communicating with existing users and clubs via newsletters and social media channels over the coming weeks to confirm arrangements of the switch to the new site.

    Offices at the new Bingham Enterprise Centre, adjacent to the new Bingham Arena Leisure Centre on Chapel Lane in the town will be open for business from Monday January 30, courtesy of funding from the European Regional Development Fund and Local Growth Funding from D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

  • New Digital High Street Adviser for Rushcliffe businesses

    Rushcliffe Borough Council:

    A new Digital High Street Adviser will be visiting Rushcliffe based businesses from this week to help them develop their digital offer, give wide ranging business advice and complement their in-person sales at the Borough’s retail premises.

    Rushcliffe Borough Council have contracted East Midlands Chamber’s Steve Phillips as one of their experienced Business Advisers to deliver the project in the Borough, courtesy of UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF).

    They are one of the first authorities in Nottinghamshire to use this new funding from central government to respond to the pressures high street businesses are currently facing.

    Steve is now out and about chatting with business owners, listening and exploring how he can assist development of their websites, online marketing and use of social media to aid sales and assist further footfall, as well as opportunities to refer them for fully funded specialist business advice.

    The project will include businesses being supported through a set of short ‘how to’ films, guides and webinars that will provide advice on a range of topics and examples of good practice, previously identified as helpful by business owners in other recent Council projects.

    Businesses wishing to chat to Steve directly can complete an online expression of interest form over the phone 07570 949752 or email

    The Digital High Steet Advisor project has received £25,000 from the UK Government through the UKSPF.

    Steve said: “At East Midlands Chamber we offer business advice on a wide range of topics and we’re pleased to now extend this offer to Rushcliffe businesses, with a particular focus on how businesses can maximise their online presence, that can raise revenue across their operating models.

    “I will be able to refer businesses to our specialist colleagues, tailoring owners’ needs to particular support and advice they need in their sector and working closely with EMC and RBC colleagues on further ways businesses can seek grant support or increasing their networks.”

    The project runs until June with initial contact and advisor visits from Steve made to all participating businesses by the end of March.

    The Council’s Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Business and Growth Cllr Andy Edyvean said: “The last three years have been especially challenging for high street businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic, experiencing supply issues, rising fuel costs, a shift to online shopping and a challenging and unpredictable economy.

    “We’re therefore one of the first to act in the region by taking advantage and utilising this UKSPF funding and applying it to local businesses’ advantage with this support and using Steve’s and the Chamber’s expert insight.

    “It builds on our support for local businesses in recent times, distributing COVID grants quickly and effectively, webinars during the lockdown periods and high street digital recovery grants to assist with digital trading, payment and marketing initiatives.

    “All the projects aimed to meet some of the needs identified by local businesses to help them trade more effectively and market themselves to a wider audience and attract customers back to the high street and this latest project will further enhance this work.”

    Permanent, Full-time | Nottingham | NG13 8AL | £23,323 to £23,749 (+ 20.2% Pension)

    Apply Here

    A Grounds Maintenance Operative role doesn’t have to be a restrictive remit for repetition, ticking off tasks from one location to the next. Imagine joining an in-house team that embraces quality of work and prides itself on the community it serves and is at the heart of a vibrant town.

    At Bingham Town Council, this role is not a cut-and-leave job or a functional front; this is a role that embraces finesse, quality of workmanship, and community service and engagement. It’s your chance to apply your skills in a small team that puts its heart and soul into the people it serves.

    With support from a Senior Grounds Maintenance Operative employed at Bingham for the past six years, you’ll be overseeing a one-mile radius inclusive of over 10,000 residents, five play areas, parks, allotments, a cemetery, and sports pitches.

    Interested In…?

  • Consulation on proposed bus stop clearway on Carnarvon Place

    Via East Midlands Ltd:

    CARNARVAN PLACE, BINGHAM – PROPOSED BUS STOP CLEARWAY – NO STOPPING, MON – SAT 7 AM – 7 PM , EXCEPT BUSES – PUBLIC CONSULTATION

    Via East Midlands Ltd, working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, proposes to create an enforceable bus stop clearway at the following stop and is shown on the attached site notice: –

    No Stopping Mon – Sat 7 am – 7 pm, except buses – 19 metre clearways • Carnarvan Place, Bingham (RU 0644)

    The County Council works closely with all public transport operators across the County to identify bus stops that suffer from inconsiderate parking. At the locations listed above, bus stop clearways are to be installed that prohibit other vehicles from parking or waiting in the bus stop at the times specified and these will be clearly identified with new road markings and signage. The main benefits of bus stop clearways are to:

    • Help the bus align with the kerb to enable better access for disabled passengers and pushchair users;
    • Ease congestion as a correctly aligned bus will not block the road for other road users;
    • Ensure that bus drivers discharge their duty to drop passengers off on the kerb and not on the road;
    • Ensure that bus services operate on time and are not unnecessarily delayed.

    Before proceeding further with the bus stop clearways, I wish to consider the views of residents and organisations who may be interested in this matter. If your comments are in the form of an objection to the proposals and if they cannot be resolved, they will be reported through the County Council’s procedures at the appropriate time. Any observations on these proposals should reach me in writing by 18th January 2023. Any details you provide may be shared with Nottinghamshire County Council as appropriate. If you’d like to find out more about how we use your data, please see our Privacy Notice: www.viaem.co.uk/privacy-notice-for-the-public/
